We consider our agency a “one-stop shop,” where we can help a person, family, or support persons victimized by crime get the help they need. One responsibility of NHCC employees and volunteers is to inform victims of the Crime Victim Justice Unit (CVJU) within the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs. CVJU strives to achieve just, fair and equitable treatment of crime victims and witnesses by providing a process to question the actions of criminal justice agencies and victim assistance programs within the State of Minnesota. The actions of the CVJU are guided by impartiality, confidentiality, and respect for all parties.

The Crime Victim Justice Unit investigates crime victim rights violations and mistreatment in the criminal justice system. Minnesota has sound victim rights legislation and the CVJU will investigate when these rights have been violated. Mistreatment occurs when a public body fails to act in accordance with its mission or responsibilities.
